A Teenager, a King,
and a Sword of Destiny

an original play written by the TitW Youth Theatre Drama Club

Directors Emily Vanda and Emily Hagen proudly announce this year's summer Youth Theatre production, Excalibur: The Once and Future Sword.

Inspired by their recent foray into the playwright's territory (Robin of Loxley, 2007), they've expanded the scope of the Youth Theatre experience by challenging the Drama Club, formed by past Youth Theatre participants, to write this year's play! The script for Excalibur has been four months in the making, and the participants have spent time researching the Arthur Pendragon legend and created a modern retelling that will impress theatre fans and Arthurian scholars alike.

Our story: While studying with Merlin in preparation for his coronation, Arthur complains about his lack of a normal childhood and is accidentally transported to the future. He finds himself in a modern high school, where he can remain and experience life as a normal teen, or try to return to his kingdom and accept the throne. He meets many familiar characters on his journey and learns what it takes to be a good king, but will he even discover the way back to his own time?

The production camp will take place from 2pm-5pm Monday through Friday the weeks of June 16-20 and 23-27. Performances:
Friday, June 27 at 7 pm
Saturday, June 28 at 2 pm and 7 pm
Sunday, June 29 at 2 pm

The play features more than 40 local youth and is double cast. If you hope to see a certain cast member perform, be sure to check with him or her to find out which two shows he or she performs!
